Former vice president Mike Pence accused Democrats this week of using the January 6th investigation to “distract attention” from their “failed agenda” ahead of the November midterms.

Speaking to Fox News Digital on Monday, Pence claimed Democrats are trying to draw Americans’ attention from the economic crisis and other “failed agenda” items by making the January 6th hearings public.

“January 6 was a tragic day, and I know we did our duty, but I will always be proud of our record,” Pence said. “And I am not going to allow the Democrats to use that tragic day to distract attention from their failed agenda or to demean the intentions of 74 million Americans who rallied behind our cause.” Pence’s remarks come days after the House Select Committee held a public hearing focused on Pence’s role in the leadup to Capitol riot.

Pence also took the opportunity to praise his work with former president Donald Trump, saying their accomplishments will not be overshadowed by the January 6th investigation.

“We parted very amicably on Jan. 20,” Pence said of the former president. “I don’t know if the president and I will ever see eye to eye on my duties on Jan. 6, but, in the aftermath of that tragic day, we sat down, and we talked through it. And then we rolled our sleeves up and finished the final weeks of our administration working together.”

He continued, “And we spoke in the months that followed us leaving office—we spoke with some regularity,” Pence continued. “And now, I think we’ve kind of gone our separate ways over the last year, but I’ll always be proud of the record we created. We delivered for the American people.”

The former president has spoken out against Pence since the hearing, calling him a “human conveyor belt” for his failure to acquiesce to Trump’s demands that he overturn the 2020 election results.
