Science in the Bible part 2
The point of this series is to cite specific instances where the scientific claims made in the Bible are well ahead of their time and have proved to be more reliable that the always-changing theories of men. All too often creationists find themselves defending against the dogmas of the day. Those dogmas, with time, prove to be either hoaxes & frauds, built on faulty assumptions, or are eventually invalidated. Exposing the reliable scientific statements made within the Bible is more inspiring than our defensively held positions. Frankly, we seem to spend more time defending against the theories of men than proving the science in the Bible. After all, who can be a more reliable source about the science of creation than the Creator Himself?
Not a Science Book, because the Bible never changes
I have often heard it said that the Bible is not a Science book. Amen! Science is always changing. Ask any doctor if he treats his patients the same way with the same medications and procedures as he did a few decades ago. But the Bible holds true for all time in all ways. It does because God doesn’t have to lie or guess about any scientific discipline – He created them all. While it may currently be in vogue to disassociate science from faith, it is a great injustice to the Creator of science.
In the first article of this series, I argued that the concept of thermodynamics was first written about by the Apostle Paul in Acts 8:20-22. I contrasted that with the first two laws of Thermodynamics being first proposed by Sadi Carnot in 1824, and elaborated upon by Rudolf Clausius and William Thomson in 1860, and finally established by Willard Gibbs in 1873. I drew attention to the fact that Paul wrote Acts approximately 1900 years before Carnot began contemplating the subject.
This article will deal with very simple verses, starting with Isaiah that contains two incredibly scientific statements that are often overlooked. I will deal with the second part of the verse in a later article. I will then move on to other verses in Job. All of the verses below are very straight forward and remarkably ahead of their time. It is inconceivable to think that those who wrote these verses had any knowledge about the things they were speaking except by Divine inspiration.
Ancient Prophets make good science
The prophet Isaiah lived around 681 B.C.Isaiah 40:22a, states:
“He (God) sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers”. The prophet made this under the inspiration of God, without any scientific emphasis, just as a matter of fact. |
In 330 B.C. Aristotle argued that world must be round. The idea first spread throughout Greece and then throughout the rest of the world.Contrary to popular belief, Columbus wasn’t the first to believe the earth was round – neither was Aristotle.
Isaiah lived approximately 350 years before Aristotle and his statement was recorded in the Bible for all to see. |
The book of Job in the Bible is thought to be the oldest of the poetical books. The exact date of Job’s life cannot be stated with any certainty but it is accepted as being sometime after the Flood of Noah and before Abraham. It is believed that Abraham was born 2008 B.C.Job 38:16a states:
“Have you entered into the springs of the sea…” |
The existence of water springs in the oceans were predicted in the early 1970s but were not actually discovered until 1977 A.D. in the Galapagos Rift. These predictions were made by oceanographers approximately 3978 years after Job first mentioned them – and that is conservatively placing Job’s life at 2008, which is at the time of Abraham’s birth. |
Job 38:16b states:“…Or have you walked in the recesses of the sea?” | The recesses of the deep were first discovered by a team of British scientists in the Pacific ocean in 1873.This discovery was made approximately 3871 years after Job – once again using our extremely conservative estimate of his lifetime. |
Job 38:7a states:“…When the morning stars sang together…” | As recently as September 5, 2012, NASA reported on the “song” the earth was singing. Yes, that is an actual musical interlude. You can read about it at the link below:http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/rbsp/news/emfisis-chorus.html
You can literally hear it on the link below: NASA also reported that black holes sing as well. You can read more about it on the link below: http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/universe/black_hole_sound.html These discoveries were made approximately 4020 years after Job’s statements.

““He (God) sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,”
Earth isn’t a circle; it’s an oblate spheroid. They’re not even remotely similar.
“The existence of water springs in the oceans were predicted in the early 1970s but were not actually discovered until 1977 A.D”
That’s weird; I first read about freshwater springs under the sea in a children’s adventure book published in 1952, and they weren’t a new discovery then.
“…When the morning stars sang together…”
Neither the Earth nor black holes are “morning stars.” Earth isn’t a star at all; black holes are dead stars. Black holes emit no sound.
“By my accounting: that’s the Bible – 5 ; Evolution – 0, but whose counting?”
The shape of the Earth, the existence of underwater springs and radio waves emitted by objects in space all have one thing in common; they have nothing whatsoever to do with evolution.
Science fail.
