Former President Donald Trump cancels Florida press conference scheduled for January 6th
Former President Donald Trump has canceled the press conference originally scheduled for January 6th marking the first anniversary of the attacks on the Capitol.
In a statement released Tuesday by his Save America PAC, Trump placed blame on the media and the congressional committee investigating the incident.
According to the Washington Post, Trump was planning on speaking at his private Mar-a-Lago Club in Florida on Thursday night. “In light of the total bias and dishonesty of the January 6th Unselect Committee of Democrats, two failed Republicans, and the Fake News Media, I am canceling the January 6th Press Conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday, and instead will discuss many of those important topics at my rally on Saturday, January 15th, in Arizona – It will be a big crowd!” he said.
Supposedly, there was expected to be an overwhelming amount of press coverage, and the Trump team was unsure if the coverage would help or hurt him. “It was going to be awful, awful press,” a Trump advisor said. Trump has allegedly announced the news conference with no real plan in mind.
Some lawmakers voiced concerns about Trump holding a press conference on the anniversary of the January 6th attack. Senator John Thune (R-SD) said, “hopefully his comments will be helpful, not harmful.”
Some looked forward to hearing the former President’s remarks. “President Trump has important things to say on Thursday, on January 6th,” said Representative Jim Banks (R-IN) (The Hill). “And like so many others, I’m looking forward to hearing what President Trump has to say.”
