Suspect in Waukesha parade attack now faces 77 charges
The suspect in the vehicular attack at a parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in November is currently facing 77 charges as a result of the deadly incident.
On Wednesday, January 12, new charges were filed in an amended criminal complaint, adding dozens more charges to the original six counts of first degree intentional homicide.
The new charges include: first-degree intentional homicide (six counts), first-degree recklessly endangering safety (61 counts), hit and run-resulting in death (six counts), felony bail jumping (two counts), and misdemeanor battery (two counts).
The new charges name the injured victims to the filing, where the original filing had only filed six charges of first degree intentional homicide, one for each of the six people killed in the attack.
The suspect, Darrell Brooks, had previously been accused of running over his ex-girlfriend with his red SUV in November. The same woman told police she was with Brooks before the parade attack.
According to the police complaint, the two met up in a park where they began arguing. They then entered Brooks’ vehicle where he “was driving around with one hand and was striking her in the face with his other hand.”
The woman then exited the vehicle, and Brooks went on to drive his SUV through the parade, killing six and injuring 61. Brooks is next scheduled to appear in court on February 12.
