One Year In, Biden’s Presidency is Paramount & Pivotal
Politics and public perception in the United States moves like a pendulum. The pendulum swings every election cycle. Sometimes the oscillation of the swing is shaky. Other times, it is prominent. America finds herself in one of those prominent swings.
One year into Biden’s presidency, we only have his administration’s failures to thank for the public’s existential migration to the other side of the political spectrum.
A recent Gallup poll found that, during 2021, U.S. political party preference shifted drastically to the right. Republicans picked up a seven-point positive swing, while Democrats received, or earned, a seven-point negative swing. This resulted in a net-positive swing of five points for Republicans. It only takes 3-5% of voters to swing the entire government the other direction.
Thanks, Joe, we did it! 2022 is just getting started!
Pendulum Swings & Paradigm Shifts
America’s political pendulum had been swinging back to the right for awhile. Obama’s Administration swung far…far left. To the shock of those who believed in hope and change, lo and behold, reality came crashing down upon progressive utopian policies. Reality has a tendency to do such things.
Democrat proposals such as, inter alia, men playing in women’s sports, allowing men to use the women’s bathrooms, America Last, and the many other progressive policies which have become absolute failures, has created a great awakening.
However, nothing has proved more pivotal to the current paradigm shift other than Biden’s government. All Biden had to do was not mess up. Easy, right?
But as his former employer, President Obama, once stated, “[d]on’t underestimate Biden’s ability to f**k things up.” With a reference like that, we think more people would have listened. (Mean tweets, though…?)
Biden, however, has proved more pivotal than Trump’s presidency.
Psychology, Politics, & Perception
This is because of a psychophysical law called Weber-Fechner’s Law. This law states the size of the “just noticeable difference” (delta) in human perception is in a constant proportion of the original stimulus value.
For example, when one starts working out and eating healthier, those around you will comment upon how you look healthier before you ever notice any difference. Trust me, I have experienced this, many times. In layman’s terms, because one sees themselves in the mirror every single day (stimulus) it takes a larger noticeable difference (delta) to change your mind’s perception.
How does this relate to politics?
America the Beautiful First
Under President Trump, America was put first. If she did not come first, then whatever policy it was, found itself in the trashcan. President Trump and his supporters are still dragged through the mud. One year later. But during his presidency, most Americans knew, conscious or not, how much better life was. Domestic and foreign.
Now, more are waking up.
With such brilliantly catastrophic failures on Biden’s part, it lends to the conclusion it is intentional; not accidental. As the old adage goes, hit them where it hurts because money talks. The thing most people pay attention to is their pocketbooks. Biden has hit where 90% of American’s will feel pain.
To highlight the economic pain. The “official” government statistic for the Consumer Price Index for Urban Consumers (CPI-U) states that yearly inflation has increased 7%. We all have paid the higher prices of Bidenomics when we go to, among other things, buy food, clothes, cars (new or used), or pay bills or rent. Things have increased a lot more. A lot.
According to my own calculations, inflation is running red-hot above 25%. (This calculation is not too difficult. Take the stated increases of items within the CPI-U and then divide the total amount by the number of items within the index. If you’re shocked or do not come close to my number, please feel free to email me.) Though, unfortunately, economics does not factor in all of Biden’s other failures. For brevity, I am sure my readers know the others.
Positive Hope and Change
Back to Weber’s Law. America has not witnessed such a drastic shift from great-to-terrible, prosperity-to-deprivation, or freedom-to-subjugation, since Carter had to pass the torch to Reagan. The polls reflect this. Though, nothing is inevitable. This momentum must continue to swing the pendulum back towards America’s foundational principles. Regardless of D or R next to the candidate’s name.
Americans must never forget the, inter alia, turmoil, embarrassment, helplessness this administration has put them through. Make your voice heard at the ballot box. Make sure your friends remember, too.
The most terrifying words in the English language are, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” We have had over a year of government help, worsening living conditions, and a current administration which only wants to impose itself more on us.
A people free to choose will always choose peace. We must never forget we always have a choice.
