Bob Saget’s family sues to block release of death investigation records
A Florida judge moved to block the release of records surrounding the sudden death of Bob Saget.
The Saget family sued to block the release of records from Saget’s death investigation on Tuesday, after news broke on his cause of death.
According to ABC News, the “Full House” actor was found dead on January 9th in his Florida hotel room, and the cause of death was determined to be head trauma. The chief medical examiner also reported that his death was an accident.
Saget’s wife, Kelly Rizzo and his three daughters filed the lawsuit against the medical examiner’s office seeking to prevent the release of all records related to the death of Bob Saget. This would include photographs, video and audio recordings, and “statutorily protected autopsy information.”
The lawsuit states, “Plaintiffs will suffer irreparable harm in the form of extreme mental pain, anguish, and emotional distress if Defendants release the Records in response to public records requests or otherwise disseminate Records for any other reason or purpose.”
The family also suggested that the media plans to file public records requests with the intention of releasing them to the public. They argue that no “legitimate public interest would be served.”
Circuit Court Judge Vincent Chiu allowed the temporary injunction, which will remain in effect until a future court decision.
The judge determined the Saget family has a “clear legal right or interest” in the records “and that public interest is served by the entry of a temporary injunction to allow the Court adequate opportunity to weigh Plaintiff’s legitimate privacy interest against the public’s claim for disclosure.”
