Two Manhattan DA’s suddenly resign after heading investigation into Donald Trump
Two prosecutors leading the criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump and his family business have resigned. The Manhattan District Attorney’s announcement has brought doubts about the likelihood of the former president facing criminal charges.
According to ABC News, Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz submitted their resignations to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. A spokesperson for Bragg said, “We are grateful for their service. The investigation is ongoing.”
The investigation thus far has focused on how Trump and his company valued their holdings depending on if they were looking to get loans or trying to pay lower taxes.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is conducting a civil investigation alongside the criminal investigation. The civil investigation has successfully gone to court to force Trump and two of his children to sit for depositions. However, Bragg supposedly expressed some doubt towards moving forward with the case, according to the New York Times.
As a result the prosecutors did not move forward with plans to question a witness before the grand journey. Additionally, the District Attorney’s office had not seen any success in persuading any Trump Organization executives to cooperate and turn on Trump. Without Dunne and Pomerantz on the case, it is likely to fizzle out.
