Viral stickers at gas pumps blame President Biden for high prices
Frustrated drivers have been placing stickers of a finger-pointing President Joe Biden, featuring the words “I did that!” in bold print, at fuel pumps all across the country amid rising gas prices and inflation.
Many have been blaming the president as well as government spending for the skyrocketing prices at the pump and even the grocery store.
“I just know everything he’s been doing since he took office has been going downhill. Bring Trump back,” said Harold Frost, 29, of the Upper West Side of New York City. “My car has been parked the hwole week because of this. I took the train, but it’s dangerous now on the train. You gotta be careful.”
Another New York resident expressed similar sentiments. “I don’t go for the Democrats. They make it seem like they got the backs of minority people, but in reality, they’re just in it for themselves,” said Vincent Williams, 29, a black resident of Harlem who said he could only afford to put $15 in his tank. Currently, that price buys around three gallons. “The rise in gas prices is B.S.,” he added.
The New York Post was able to find the stickers, which are currently selling in packs of 100 for $8 on Amazon, on pumps in a variety of locations, including on a pump at the Speedway on Bruckner Boulevard in Mott Haven as well as several at a Shell pump in Harlem on Broadway.
The stickers first appeared last year, but they have risen in popularity now that gas prices are hitting record highs. The Biden administration has placed blame on its ban on Russian oil imports for the increase in price, a ban which was implemented in response to Russa’s war on Ukraine.
Though gas station managers are not particular fans of the stickers, one seller, Javier Estrada Ovalles, said he is benefiting from the price hike, filling nearly 80 orders in his store Automotive Anarchy per day for the political statement.
“Me personally, I’m not either left or right or Democrat or Republican, nothing like that,” he said. “It’s just whatever sells is pretty much what’s gonna go on the shelf.”
