Texas Attorney General responds to Psaki, says she ‘doesn’t understand’ border situation
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) appeared on Fox and Friends Weekend on Saturday and took aim at White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, saying comments she made about the Southern border this week show she “doesn’t understand” the situation.
In response to a question about Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s threat to bus and fly migrants from the Southern border to the nation’s capital to prompt government action, Psaki said “I’m not aware of what authority the governor would be doing that under. I think it’s pretty clear this is a publicity stunt.”
Psaki added, “His own office admits that a migrant would need to voluntarily be transported, and it can’t compel them to because, again, enforcement of our country’s immigration laws lies with the federal government and not a state.”
Paxton told Fox and Friends, “I wish it was only a publicity stunt. [Psaki] doesn’t understand the reality, or doesn’t care about the reality, of what’s happening on the Texas border.” The threat by Abbott comes days after the Biden administration scheduled an end to Title 42, which has allowed border patrol to turn away migrants based on COVID-19 concerns.
