White House announces President Biden’s five new picks for U.S. Attorney positions

The White House announced President Biden’s new picks for five new United States Attorney positions on Friday, naming Rachelle L. Crowe, Joshua D. Hurwit, Gerard M. Karam, Jacqueline C. Romero, and Phillip A. Talbert to the positions.

According to the statement, Rachelle L. Crowe “served as the State Senator for Illinois’s 56th District since 2019. From 2006 to 2018, she served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office in the Violent Crimes, General Felony and Juvenile Abuse units. She was previously an associate at three law firms.” Crowe has been appointed to serve as US Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.

Appointed by Biden as US Attorney for the District of Idaho, Joshua Hurwit, served as Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho since 2012. He also worked as a law clerk for Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York from 2007 to 2008.

Gerard M. Karam has worked at a private law firm since 1995. During that time, he has also served as a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, and Chief Public Defender of Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania from 1993 to 2003.

Jacqueline C. Romero will serve as United States attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Romero has served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania since 2006. 

The new United States attorney for the Eastern District of California, Phillip Talbert, has been Attorney General-appointed United States Attorney for the Eastern District of California since December 2021, a position he also held from 2016 to 2017. 

“These individuals were chosen for their devotion to enforcing the law, their professionalism, their experience and credentials in this field, their dedication to pursuing equal justice for all, and their commitment to the independence of the Department of Justice,” reads the White House statement.
