Elon Musk says he supports stricter background checks for gun-buyers, blames media for giving mass murderers attention
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk weighed in on the horrific elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, this week in a statement to CNBC, saying he supports stronger background checks for firearm purchases.
Musk sent an email to CNBC in the wake of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas that left 21 dead, including 19 children, that outlined his mixed views on gun control in the United States. In the email, Musk said he supports stricter background checks for firearm purchases, but also expressed his belief in the Second Amendment.
“I strongly believe that the right to bear arms is an important safeguard against potential tyranny of government. Historically, maintaining their power over the people is why those in power did not allow public ownership of guns,” Musk wrote.
He also proposed “tight background checks” for all gun sales and limiting sales of assault weapons to people in special circumstances, like gun range owners, or people who live in a “high risk location, like gang warfare.”
Musk also took the opportunity to lash out at the media for what he believes is giving mass shooters the attention they crave. “Regarding recent events, the shooters are obviously doing this to generate the most amount of attention possible. Why is the media doing exactly what the mass murderers want?” Musk asked in the email.
Musk has significant business interests in Texas, with Tesla and SpaceX both operating in various ways out of the state, which also has some of the loosest gun control laws in the country. Musk has not been public about his views on gun control in the past, but recently announced he will vote Republican in the upcoming midterm elections.

He needs to read Amendment 2 and focus on the real issue. I recently read about a mass murder of children in a school that occurred around 95 years ago. The tool used dynamite. So if a fun was not available the crime would have been done with knives, bats, gasoline, kerosene, or tools. Remember, the murder who used an SUV to kill people in a parade?
The problems we have today are due to the “Left”‘s ideology of “If it feels good do it”, and “You are not responsible for what we do”. The issue is not the tools but the ideology of the people and the indoctrination they are being subjected with.
