Donald Trump says convicted drug dealers should face death penalty
Former President Donald Trump called for capital punishment for drug dealers during a speech he made in Las Vegas at a Save America event.
“The penalties should be very, very severe. If you look at countries throughout the world, the ones that don’t have a drug problem are ones that institute a very quick trial death penalty sentence for drug dealers,” Trump said while speaking at an American Policy Institute event.
“It sounds horrible, doesn’t it? But you know what? That’s the ones that don’t have any problem. It doesn’t take 15 years in court. It goes quickly, and you absolutely — you execute a drug dealer, and you’ll save 500 lives,” Trump went onto say, according to The Hill. “It’s terrible to say, but you take a look at every country in this world that doesn’t have a problem with drugs, they have a very strong death penalty for people that sell drugs.”
Trump also said that any human trafficker who kills a law enforcement officer should face the same fate. “Those who kill police officers as well as those who kill through human trafficking,” Trump said.
“So we can be streetwise tough and smart and end our problem or we can be politically correct, weak and frankly, extremely stupid,” Trump said. “Which is probably the way we will continue to be and lose millions and millions more people to a scourge the likes of which our country and most other countries have never seen before.”
“So do something about it. It’s The only way you’re going to win the only way you’re going to win all right,” Trump added.
Trump also hit out at America in its current state, saying: “To put it simply, we are a nation in decline. We are a failing nation.” He said that America is in the midst of a “deadly wave of lawlessness and chaos.”
Trump also said that his former attorney, Rudy Giuliani, was in hospital with “a heart problem.” The former New York City mayor is “getting well,” Trump said, adding: “Can you believe it? What they put Rudy through.”
Giuliani’s lawyer did address this comment and said that Giuliani had been discharged from hospital earlier in the week after receiving heart stents. Trump was in Las Vegas to campaign for senate candidate Alex Laxalt and governor candidate Sheriff Joe Lombardo.
