Exit polls from midterms show large majority of voters do not want President Biden to run again
Some exit polls from Tuesday’s US midterm elections showed voters as a whole are “dissatisfied” with the direction of the country, and do not want President Biden to run again in 2024.
Exit polling from CNN found a majority of respondents – 73 percent total – are “dissatisfied” with the direction in which the US is headed politically, with 33 percent of those saying they were “angry.”
CBS News’ exit polling showed 66 percent of those polled do not want to see current US President Joe Biden to seek a second term in 2024.
CBS acknowledged that their poll results may have skewed in favor of Republicans because more GOP voters tend to show up to the polls on election day, while Democrats vote early or by mail in higher numbers.
CNN’s polling also showed Democrats had lost some support among communities of color, with the GOP harnessing some of those votes and showing an increase in Latino votes. The GOP also appeared to lure more white women than in previous polling, up by 8 points over 2018.
Some suburban voters also shifted toward the GOP in CNN’s polling, showing suburban voters up 6 points over 2018.
While Biden kept a low profile on election day, he addressed the nation on Wednesday, celebrating what he called, “a good day for America and a good day for democracy.”
Biden noted that the Republicans had not achieved what they hoped would be a “red wave” in the midterm elections, and promised he is “prepared to work” with Republicans if they should gain control of either chamber of Congress.
