Nikki Haley expected to make 2024 announcement on Wednesday this week

Former United Nations ambassador under the Trump administration, Nikki Haley, is reportedly gearing up to make her official announcement entering the race for the 2024 Republican presidential race.

Haley, who also served as governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017 before joining Trump’s White House as a cabinet member, previously indicated she would not run against her former boss for the 2024 POTUS nomination. In recent weeks, however, she has hinted at her decision to throw her hat in the ring along with some other potentially formidable opponents.

As Haley prepares to begin her campaign, the GOP pool of potential high-profile candidates is widening. Other prominent Republicans looking to oppose former president Trump include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former vice president Mike Pence, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz. Trump is, to date, the only one who has formally announced his candidacy. National polling has shown DeSantis to likely be Trump’s strongest competition, though the former president continues to lead the polls for GOP presidential candidates.

In spite of Trump’s head start from his November announcement, he has struggled to pull the amount of campaign funds he did in his previous two runs. If Trump were to be elected next year, he would be the first US president to be in office in two non-consecutive terms. If Haley won, she would be the first female president. Entering the GOP race would make her the only woman of color to run for the Republican nomination.

Haley is expected to make her announcement on Wednesday in Charleston, South Carolina, where she has set up her campaign headquarters.
