Koch Brothers: for the defense
Who would ever think that a housewife living in the hills of New Jersey would feel obliged to defend the Koch Brothers? And yet, that is just the position I find myself in today. Let me make this clear and to the point. I don’t know much about these brothers except that they are very successful and donate quite a bit of money to defend free markets, libertarian causes, and are large benefactors to Americans for Prosperity. So, if somewhere along the line someone reading this post has a problem with them, please spare me your comments. I’m not interested.
So the Koch Brothers want to buy a newspaper?
The reason for this article is simple. I find the liberal objections to their buying the Los Angeles Times beyond hypocritical to the point of being absolutely hysterical. If you have followed the story at all, you will hear the LA libs complaining on the basis of keeping the press objective. Are you rolling on the floor laughing yet? I guess they believe that the New York Times and their other cronies are objective? In which case, their reasoning abilities are too far gone to even begin to try to hold an intelligent conversation with them. As Ronald Reagan once said, “It’s not that liberals don’t know anything; it’s that so much of what they know is wrong.”

More disturbing than the left’s objections and continued criticism of the Koch Brothers is the right’s criticism. Their objections may not be as hysterical as the left’s but it is every bit as hypocritical. Many of the same people who tear their clothes and pound their heads against the wall in objection to men like George Soros and his contributions to the leftist agendas speak ill of the Koch Brothers. It baffles me to say the least. They should be writing them letters of great thanks for helping to defend liberty in a practical manner.
Who is consistent here?
While I am baffled – especially by the TEA parties objections to the Koch contributions, at least I can say the TEA party is consistent in that they seem to have a problem with anyone collecting money for anything. The “baffling” part is that most Conservatives who claim to be capitalists and supporters of free markets condemn those who have been successful and shun their contributions. And if you happen to be running an operation of any kind that can use a financial hand up – God help you – the TEA Party will be sure to label you an opportunist or someone who is just interested in making money off of the patriot movement. Well here’s a newsflash – sometimes it takes money to fight for the American Dream and sometimes it takes money to defend liberty and free markets and it sure takes money to run a campaign and fight to unseat any political incumbent.
So, my Conservative brothers and sisters, you can criticize and sneer at the Koch Brothers and their generous contributions, but I for one would like to go on record and thank them for putting their money where their mouths are.
