Rep. Rashida Tlaib says she wore a mask because a ‘Republican tracker’ was following her

Rep. Rashida Tlaib recently said she was only wearing a mask because a “Republican tracker” was following her.
Rep. Tlaib was attending an event in Detroit featuring Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge when she made the remark to a felow attendee who was also not wearing a mask. In the exchange, the attendee appears to believe Tlaib scolded him for not wearing a mask. “Oh, no, oh, not you!” Tlaib clarifies to the man. “No, no, no, I’m just wearing it because I’ve got a Republican tracker here,” she said, gesturing to the person recording the exchange.
Tlaib faced criticism in August when she was caught without a mask at a wedding in Dearborn, Michigan. Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention at the time instructed that face masks should be worn in indoor venues.
Tlaib had criticized Sen. Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, for encouraging people to resist the CDC’s guidelines in a video. This happened one day before she was caught maskless in public.
“The KY Senator is throwing a tantrum as his state is being swallowed whole by this virus, again,” Tlaib tweeted. “People are getting sick and dying 98 counties in Kentucky have a high incidence rate of COVID-19. He needs to put politics aside, and put people first. Start resisting the virus.”
