Nike delays release of Travis Scott shoe following Astroworld tragedy

Nike announced that it would be postponing the release of its Travis Scott collaboration shoe out of respect to those impacted by the Astroworld tragedy.

On Monday, Nike released a statement on its SNKRS app that it would be pushing back the release of the Travis Scott shoe: “Out of respect for everyone impacted by the tragic events at the Astroworld Festival, we are postponing the launch of the Air Max 1 x Cactus Jack.” The shoe’s planned release was December 16. It is unclear when the shoe will now be released.

Last year, Nike announced that it would be collaborating with Scott to make a shoe- the  Nike x Travis Scott Air Max 270 “Cactus Trails”. The shoes are a brown pair of Air Max 1s, which would have additional colors, a vintage look, and a reversed Nike swoosh. The price was going to be $175.”The Air Jordan I celebrates Travis Scott, hip-hop artist, record label founder and Houston, Texas native,” Nike announced on its website. “Details on the shoe, including a reverse Swoosh and hidden pouch, help set this edition of the storied sneaker apart for the rapper and producer, and for Cactus Jack Records.”

The announcement comes after a tenth victim of the Astroworld crowd surge, a nine-year old, died.Earlier this month, a crowd surge occurred during the Astroworld event while Travis Scott was performing. Many allege that despite being aware that the crowd surge was happening, he continued the concert.

He and his lawyers have denied the claims, saying that he didn’t know and that he is devastated. “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” Scott tweeted. “My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.”Ten people have died as a result of the crowd surge. 

Over 100 lawsuits have been filed against Scott and Live Nation. He has promised to pay for the funerals of the deceased and refund concert-goers’ tickets. Scott cancelled his next scheduled concert, which was going to be in Las Vegas. A few of Scott’s other partnerships and collaborations have ended as a result of the disaster.
