Dr. Fauci would support a 9/11-style commission to study United States response to COVID-19
Dr. Anthony Fauci said on CBS he would be “astounded” if the U.S. did not seriously investigate the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and look at what we did right and what points we failed on.
When the interviewer enquired whether he would support a 9/11 commission-style investigation into the country’s response to the pandemic Fauci said, “Oh, I absolutely want one.”
Given the staggering numbers, the public should not imagine that the country wouldn’t “look back at this and tear it apart, examine it, do an autopsy on it and try and figure it out,” Fauci said. “People should not think that that’s not going to happen. It’s not happening now because everybody’s focusing on getting this thing under control,” he added.
Fauci went onto say that Biden will also back the investigation. “I think once we get it on the much better control, you’re going to start seeing a real close examination of that,” he said. Asked about the origins of the virus, Fauci said that he hasn’t ruled out that it jumped to humans from a wet market in Wuhan.
“What the Chinese did, I don’t have firsthand knowledge of that, but the people who were reporting it, who investigated what they did is they cleaned out the markets as soon as it turned out that it was clear that there were clusters coming from the market,” he said. “Which, you know, in typical fashion, I think trying to make sure that things don’t get pointed to them, they probably got rid of the animals that were the intermediary hosts there.”
Fauci also responded to Beijing’s assertion that the virus did not come from the market. “I don’t think you could say that. I don’t think you can say that. I think you could say we don’t know how and where it originated,” he said.
“There were wet markets in Wuhan that are ample opportunity for a virus to jump from an animal that gets brought in from all parts of China that are very closely related physically to bat enclaves in caves and come to the market. So I don’t think anyone can say that it didn’t come from here or it did come from here..”
