Stacey Abrams officially announces her bid for Georgia Governor in 2022
Stacey Abrams has officially announced her candidacy in the 2022 Georgia gubernatorial race.
Her campaign video states she decided to run because she believes “opportunity in our state shouldn’t be determined by zip code, background or access to power.”
“Regardless of the pandemic or the storms, the obstacles in our way or the forces determined to divide us, my job has been to just put my head down and keep working toward one Georgia,” she says in her video. “Because in the end, we are one Georgia.” Abrams is also expected to clear the Democratic field in the race according to sources close to her.
The Republican Governors Association criticized Abrams’ policies and vowed to support Kemp in his reelection bid.
“Abrams stands firmly on the side of the woke activists who cost Georgia millions in revenue all because Governor Brian Kemp made it a priority to protect lives and livelihoods, keep kids in school and in the classroom, let businesses stay open and grow their workforce, and make it easier to vote and harder to cheat,” the RGA said in a statement.
If Abrams wins in 2022, she would become the first black female governor elected in the United States.
