Twitter suspends account providing Ghislaine Maxwell trial updates
On Wednesday, a Twitter account that was monitoring the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, former partner of Jeffrey Epstein, was suspended from the site. The tech company said the account was in violation of rules against “platform manipulation and spam.”
The account called the Maxwell Trial Tracker, @TrackerTrial, was only active for two weeks before being shut down. It had amassed roughly 525,000 followers by the date of its suspension.
The account holder took to their Substack page to respond to the removal of the account. “I woke up this morning and the @TrackerTrial account on Twitter was suspended. All the other accounts that I have made in the past were also suspended,” the account owner wrote.
The Substack message continued, “This was the only note that I received,” with a screenshot of Twitter’s justification for suspending the account. The tech giant simply said it was suspended for “violating our rules against platform manipulation and spam.”
It went on to say, “You may not use Twitter’s services in a manner intended to artificially amplify or suppress information or engage in behavior that manipulates or disrupts people’s experience on Twitter.”
The message from Twitter ended by saying, “Note that if you attempt to evade a permanent suspension by creating new accounts, we will suspend your new accounts.”
Maxwell, 59, has been accused of helping “to recruit, groom and ultimately abuse” four teenage girls for sexual acts with Epstein in events which took place at his Manhattan home from 1994 to 2004.
Prosecutors were expected to rest their case last week, dramatically shortening the legal proceedings. Maxwell will still face another trial, regardless of the outcome of this trial, for two counts of perjury that at the defense’s request, the judge previously agreed to separate.
