Senators Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker both test positive for COVID-19
Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) both announced on Sunday they had tested positive for COVID-19.
Warren, 72, put out a statement on Twitter on Sunday, telling her followers, “I regularly test for COVID & while I tested negative earlier this week, today I tested positive with a breakthrough case. Thankfully, I am only experiencing mild symptoms & am grateful for the protection provided against serious illness that comes from being vaccinated & boosted.”
Booker, 52, also announced his positive diagnosis on Twitter on Sunday, saying “I learned today that I tested positive for COVID-19 after first feeling symptoms on Saturday. My symptoms are relatively mild. I’m beyond grateful to have received two doses of vaccine and, more recently, a booster – I’m certain that without them I would be doing much worse.”
On Monday Maryland governor Larry Hogan (R) released a statement saying he had also tested positive for COVID-19. The announcements come amid a recent spike in COVID-19 cases as the omicron variant begins to spread in the United States.
Last Tuesday, the United States surpassed 800,000 COVID-19 deaths, a milestone that Johns Hopkins epidemiologist David Dowdy told ABC News last week would be a “defining tragedy of our generation.”
