California New Year twins born fifteen minutes apart have birthdays in separate years
A California hospital announced its first birth of 2022 was a twin, whose sibling was born fifteen minutes prior, and has a different birth month, day and year.
Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, California, posted on Facebook on New Year’s Day announcing its first birth of 2022, Aylin Yolanda Trujillo, who was born at exactly midnight, ringing in the new year. Her twin brother, Alfredo Antonio Trujillo, was born fifteen minutes prior, at 11:45 on New Year’s eve. The fraternal twins now have the rare distinction of having completely different birth years.
Aylin was born at 5 pounds, 14 ounces, and Alfredo weighed in at 6 pounds, one ounce. “It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” their mother, Fatima Madrigal, told the hospital. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”
According to Verywell Family, twins born in different years do happen almost every year, though twin births only make up about 3 percent of all births annually.
One set of twins outdid the rest, however, being born in separate millennia after a planned cesarean section. Jacob Wallman entered the world at 11:59PM on December 31, 1999, while sister Jordan arrived two minutes later — at 12:01AM on January 1, 2000.
