Head analyst at Gasbuddy predicts ‘calm before the storm’ with gas prices in 2022

Head analyst at Gasbuddy, Patrick De Haan, predicts gas prices are currently in the ‘calm before the storm’, according to an interview with Varney & Co. on Fox News last week.

“This is the calm before the storm, and we’re already going up,” De Haan said. “Most of the pain is going to come in March, April and May,” he added. He warned of a dip in supply that will not be able to keep up with demand, which will increase in the warmer months as Americans begin traveling more.

De Haan’s prediction echoes his previous report, provided to CNN in December, that warned of a resurgence in gas prices in 2022 before they drop again. That report predicted some areas in the United States may see gas prices top $4 a gallon in the Spring and Summer of 2022. 

OPIS Energy Analyst Tom Kloza had a similar prediction when he spoke to Fox’s Mornings with Maria. “I think it’s going to be somewhere between the Super Bowl and Memorial Day, but it’s going to happen quick,” said Kloza. Both experts agree the unrest in Libya and Kazakhstan may lead to an increase in supply and prices in the coming months.
