Rihanna’s foundation to pledge $15 million to fight climate change
On Tuesday, singer Rihanna announced that her foundation would be pledging money to movements and groups looking to combat climate change.
She noted that $15 million would be given through her Clara Lionel Foundation as she backs her belief that climate change is also a social-justice issue.
Rihanna said in her announcement that the donation would be going to 18 climate justice organizations working in the Caribbean nations as well as the united states. Those groups include the Climate Justice Alliance, the Indigenous Environmental Network, and the Movement for Black Lives.
“Climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally,” Rihanna said in a statement, “with communities of color and island nations facing the brunt of climate change.”
The singer herself is from the eastern Caribbean island of Barbados. She said the disparity between regions and countries affected most by climate change is the reason her foundation, which she named after her grandparents, prioritizes work in both climate justice and climate resilience.
The grands were also made in partnership with Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey’s #StartSmall philanthropic initiative. Rihanna added that the funding will be focused on groups with black, indigenous, female, and LGBT leaders as she noted their communities are at the greatest risk of devastation due to events caused by climate change.
“Funders must build partnerships with grassroots organizations, acknowledging their deep understanding of what is necessary to achieve climate justice in their own communities,” said Justine Lucas in a statement. Lucas currently serves as the executive director for the Clara Lionel Foundation.

Another person buying into lies related to the climate. The issue is not the climate but those wanting to destroy people’s freedoms. We cleaned up the environment by the 1970s and those who focused on the pollution issues could not handle the fact that the issue was solved – at least here in the US. She should take the time to learn about the Medieval Warm Period and the Little Ice Age.
