Mitch McConnell distances himself from Trump, says he is ‘not in favor’ of Jan. 6 pardons
At a Texas rally on Friday, former President Donald Trump hinted at yet another presidential campaign. He said that if he were to become the 47th president of the United States he would provide pardons for those arrested after the January 6th event at Capitol Hill.
“If I run and if I win, we will treat those people from January 6 fairly. We will treat them fairly. And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons. Because they are being treated so unfairly” he announced to the crowd (Newsweek).
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell responded to his comments, saying, “What we saw here on January the 6th was an effort to prevent the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another, which had never happened before in our country.”
He also stated that the results of the election were already finalized when the Electoral College verified the winner on December 14. “Well, I can speak for myself, the election of 2020 was decided December the 14th of 2020 when the Electoral College certified the winner of the election” he said (Newsweek).
“My view is, I would not be in favor of shortening any of the sentences for any of the people who pleaded guilty to crimes” stated McConnell (Washington Post).
Other Republican members of the Senate have been adamant about denouncing the events at the Capitol on January 6. Senator Lindsay Graham of South Carolina stated that Trump’s suggestion to pardon the January 6 inmates was “inappropriate” (Insider).

OK, wiseguys. That’s it. You get primaried. You don’t even know that they’re guilty – because the authorities have been using dictator methods on those persons-of-interest, and you won’t even take the trouble to find out about it. Shame on you.
