GOP Sen. Ron Johnson dodges questions about censure of Cheney and Kinzinger

Wisconsin GOP Senator Ron Johnson declined to answer questions this weekend about whether he believes the Republican National Convention was correct to censure Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for their roles on the House Select Committee examining the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol last year.

After speaking at a “Parent Empowerment Rally” in Washington County, Wisconsin, this weekend, Johnson was asked by an audience member whether he believed the RNC was correct in voting to censure Cheney and Kinzinger.

Johnson appeared to dodge the question, answering, “One of the things we talked about here is the basic bias of the media and asking questions, pushing issues that really most Americans don’t care about, most Wisconsinites don’t care about.”

Johnson continued by saying he had not read the censure resolution and would not comment on it. After the event, Johnson said he had learned “these people are concerned about what’s being taught to their children. The indoctrination. They’re certainly concerned about the mask mandates, the harm being done to their kids, lack of learning, being out of education for a certain period of time. But they’re also concerned about inflation. They’re concerned about the other serious issues facing our nation.”

Johnson announced earlier this year he is running for reelection. If he wins, it would be Johnson’s third term in Congress.
