Darrell Brooks pleads not guilty to Waukesha Christmas parade attack
Darrell Brooks appeared in court on Friday for a preliminary hearing and was charged with dozens of new counts for the Waukesha Christmas parade attack on November 21, 2021, that claimed the lives of six people, according to WITI in Milwaukee.
The charges include six counts of homicide, 61 counts of reckless endangerment, six counts of hit and run resulting in death, two counts of felony bail jumping, and two counts of misdemeanor battery.
Brooks pleaded not guilty to all 77 counts he faces during a court appearance Friday. “We’ve received copies of the information … and we’re going to enter pleas of not guilty this morning,” said Jeremy Perry, defense attorney.
During Brooks’ appearance in court, his defense team also requested for a jury to be brought in from a different county. The state has not yet filed a response to the team’s motion, but a judge will ultimately rule on the request.
Brooks’ lawyers have also filed to change the trial’s venue, but the judge has yet to rule on the motion. Brooks is scheduled to return to court on March 11. He is currently being held on $5 million dollar bail.
