Celebrities, politicians, and fans enjoyed the Super Bowl maskless, despite mandate
During Sunday’s game at SoFi stadium in Inglewood, California, LeBron James, Chris Tucker, Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck, Charlize Theron, Matt Damon and more were seen on camera without face coverings, to the frustration of some users on social media.
Everyone at SoFi Stadium ages 2 or older were required to wear a mask unless they were actively drinking or eating. In California, there is a statewide mandate for people to wear masks indoors until Tuesday.
“My students all have to wear masks all day tomorrow, inside and outside of their classrooms because we are in LA County. Same place as the Super Bowl. But not a mask in sight here,” one user tweeted.
“Here’s the video of every celebrity without a mask during the Super Bowl. But every kid in California will have to be wearing them tomorrow in school. They must all be holding their breaths the entire game.” Clay Travis tweeted
SoFi stadium has the capacity to host up to 100,000 people.
“We do ask that everyone take care to minimize risk during the pandemic,” L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer warned before the game last week.
“Whether attending the game at SoFi Stadium a pre-game event or gathering at someone’s home, many of us will be spending several hours eating, drinking, cheering, and shouting with people from very different households.”
The Los Angeles Youth Orchestra performed with masks on before kick-off.
