Ivanka Trump in discussions with January 6 committee for voluntary interview
Former President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, will be voluntarily appearing before the January 6 committee for an interview. Ivanka served as President Trump’s senior White House advisor during his time in office.
A spokesperson for Ivanka Trump said in a statement on Wednesday, “Ivanka Trump is in discussions with the Committee to voluntarily appear for an interview.” According to CNN, it has been confirmed that the two sides are in discussions about said interview. Ivanka had previously been asked to voluntarily cooperate with the committee’s investigation.
Last month the committee released a letter to request cooperation, and also revealed new details about the former President’s actions leading up to January 6th.
The letter specified new testimony about Trump pressuring former Vice President Mike Pence to stop the certification of votes. Additionally, it outlined text messages from Fox host Sean Hannity urging the White House to get Trump to stop the election fraud talk.
ABC News reported that very few people who worked for the former president have voluntarily agreed to testify for the House committee investigating January 6. Trump has commented that the committee is being used to “persecute their political opponents” and that their requests are “not based in law or reality.” The select committee has subpoenaed several people close to the president recently, and will likely continue to do so.
