According to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, President Joe Biden’s approval rating fell once again, reaching yet another record low.

Just ahead of his first State of the Union address on Tuesday, the president’s rating saw just 37 percent of respondents saying they approve of the job he is doing and 55 percent saying they disapprove.

When respondents were asked which party they would prefer to be in control of Congress. 50 percent noted that they would rather have Republicans in charge, in comparison with just 40 percent favoring Democrats.

Regarding how they would cast their vote in the House elections if the races were held on that day, 49 percent of polled registered voters responded that they would prefer the Republican candidate as just 42 percent said they would select the Democratic candidate.

Once Russia invaded Ukraine last week, after tensions had been building along the border of the two countries for months, Americans also have had stronger opinions on what the United States should do in response.

But just prior to the full invasion, when this survey was mostly conducted, a large and bipartisan majority approve of the sanctions that have so far been imposed, but 47 percent added that they disapprove of the job Biden has done in managing the crisis so far.

Still, respondents struggled with how Biden has been handling the economy with respect to rising inflation among other things. Just 37 percent said they approve of the job Biden is doing in economic issues as 58 percent said they disapproved.

These results reflect a slightly lower approval rating than the Post-ABC’s November poll. Biden’s handling of the pandemic has also been viewed negatively, this time showing a 44 percent approval compared to 50 percent disapproval.
