Queen Elizabeth II meets with Justin Trudeau after beating COVID-19
Queen Elizabeth II met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Monday. This was her first in-person audience announced since testing positive for Covid-19.
“The Queen has just met with Canadian Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau at Windsor Castle (her first in-person meeting since beating Covid),” Royal Author Omid Scobie wrote on Twitter. “Trudeau is in the UK as part of international talks re: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and to strategize on the response of NATO countries.”
The Queen held an audience with Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau at Windsor Castle after he arrived in the United Kingdom to join talks with British prime minister Boris Johnson and Netherlands prime minister Mark Rutte regarding the war in Ukraine.
The queen, who was photographed without her walking stick, appeared in good spirits as she shook hands with Trudeau in the castle’s Oak Room.
In a short statement sent to Insider, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Queen held an audience with Trudeau on Monday. A handful of photos of the pair shaking hands were also released.
Representatives for the palace did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment about the nature of the meeting and what was discussed, nor did they respond to Insider’s request for information about the bouquet.
Buckingham Palace first said the queen tested positive for COVID-19 on February 20th, which came after her son, Prince Charles, and his wife, Duchess Camilla, had both also tested positive. Charles provided an update on the queen’s health last week, noting that she’s doing a “lot better now.”
