Former NY Gov. Cuomo files lawsuit against state ethics board over 2020 book profits
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo filed a lawsuit this week against the New York Ethics Board, alleging “extraordinary bias” against him and violating his constitutional rights.
Cuomo, who penned the book “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic” in 2020 when his performance during the onset of the virus was widely praised, was asked to turn over some of the profits he made from the book, claiming Cuomo had violated an ethics agreement with the Joint Commission on Public Ethics that barred him from using state resources or personnel to produce the book.
An investigation by the state Assembly showed Cuomo had violated the terms of the deal by utilizing state resources. Cuomo’s camp says the personnel who helped with the book were doing so in their personal time, and were not violating the agreement with JCOPE.
The Joint Commission on Public Ethics has not yet publicly commented on the lawsuit.
