White House ‘stands by’ President Biden’s claim that his son didn’t profit from business deals with China
The White House stands by President Joe Biden’s claim that his son did not make money in a deal with China. The claim was originally made in an October 2020 presidential debate.
According to the New York Post, White House communications director Kate Bedingfield stood by claims that Hunter Biden did not make money from deals with China or engage in unethical overseas business deals. However, several US newspapers have brought attention to Hunter Biden, and have said criminal charges may be on the table.
The NBC News journalist who moderated the final debate, Kristen Welker, pressed Bedingfield about the accuracy of the President’s claims.
She asked, “During the last presidential debate. [Joe] Biden was asked if there’s anything inappropriate or unethical about his son’s relationships, business dealings in China and/or Ukraine. The president said ‘nothing was unethical.’ He then went on to say, ‘My son has not made money in terms of this thing about, talking about China.’ Does the White House stand by that comment?”
Bedingfield responded saying, “We absolutely stand by the president’s comment. And I would point you to the reporting on this, which referenced statements that we made at the time, that we gave to the Washington Post, who worked on this story. But as you know, I don’t speak for Hunter Biden so there’s not more I can say on that.”
