Iowa man who faked death to avoid child porn charges arrested
After 6 years of being a fugitive, a man from Iowa was able to release himself from his ankle monitor and fake his own death has been arrested 1700 miles from his grandmother’s house.
He was residing there whilst awaiting trail for child sexual abuse imagery charges, authorities confirmed.
Jacob Channce Greer, 28, who lived in Des Moines was found on Monday and arrested in Spanaway, Washington, the US Marshall Service confirmed in a statement.
Greer had been living there after being released on bond. Under the terms of the bond, he was required to wear an ankle monitor. On May 31, 2016, Greer’s probation officer received an alert that the ankle bracelet had been removed.
Greer, who was described by authorities as a survivalist, was being held at the Federal Detention Center in Seattle until he could be taken to Des Moines for his trial. It is not clear at this stage whether Greer had legal representation.
“The arrest of Jacob Greer after six years is a testament to the tenacity of deputy U.S. Marshalls and our investigative partners,” Ted G Kamatchus, U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Iowa said in a statement. “Even though the case went cold, they would not quit.” Kamatchus went onto say.
