DHL cargo plane breaks in two during emergency landing in Costa Rica
A DHL cargo plane skidded off the runway at Costa Rica’s Juan Santamaria international airport on Thursday, breaking in two as it came to a dramatic stop.
The plane was forced to make an emergency landing when the pilots noticed possible mechanical issues and returned to the airport just after takeoff. In a bystander’s video, the aircraft can be seen making a landing on the runway before skidding into a U-turn and breaking in half beside the runway.
Reportedly the issues may have been to do with the plane’s hydraulic system. No one was injured in the crash, but it is the third time this week a Boeing 757-200 jets have experienced mechanical issues.
DHL spokesman Daniel McGrath said the company is working closely with authorities to conduct an investigation into the cause of the crash.
