Hedge fund mogul Ken Griffin is GOP’s largest donor in 2022 midterms, giving $40 million so far
Citadel hedge fund manager and billionaire Ken Griffin is the biggest donor to Republican causes in the 2022 midterm election cycle so far, according to a new report by the Wall Street Journal.
Griffin, who out-earned all other hedge fund managers in 2021, bringing in over $2 billion, has been outspoken about his political beliefs when it comes to crime and education.
“I’ve had multiple colleagues mugged at gunpoint. I’ve had a colleague stabbed on the way to work,” Griffin told the Wall Street Journal. “That’s a really difficult backdrop with which to draw talent to your city.”
Griffin lives in Chicago. Griffin also told the WSJ that in order to decrease crime, a substantive education system is mandatory.
“Nothing is more important to the future of America than a robust nursery through high school, and then a system of higher education,” Griffin said. “A huge part of my shift towards being more involved in politics has been watching federal and state policies undermine access to the American Dream.”
A breakdown of Griffin’s political contributions this midterm cycle so far showed he gave $5 million to a political action committee associated with possible 2024 GOP presidential hopeful, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. He also donated $7.5 million to a PAC backing Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate David McCormick, who is running against Trump-backed television personality Dr. Mehmet Oz.
While Griffin is passionate about his political beliefs, he still advocates for all business leaders to get involved in the political conversation and rally for causes they believe in.
“Too many of America’s business leaders stay out of politics today,” Griffin said “They have to be engaged because they understand the ramification of policy decisions: I’m building a business; I’m running a factory; I’m creating jobs. They just can’t continue to be silent.”
