Press Secretary Jen Psaki gets emotional while discussing new Florida Parental Rights in Education law
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki became emotional while discussing the Parental Rights in Education law, passed in the state of Florida aimed at preventing the instruction of sexual content and gender ideology in classrooms up to third grade.
“I’m going to get emotional about this issue because it’s horrible,” Psaki said on Jessica Yellin’s “News Not Noise” podcast while fighting back tears discussing the Florida legislation recently signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis thar prohibits classroom instruction on “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” with children in third grade or younger “or in a manner that is not age-appropriate.
Earlier this month Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg told hosts on “The View” that he agrees the Florida law will “kill kids.”
Buttigieg then went on to apply the law to areas it does not cover, such as high school teachers. “Is the teacher supposed to, you know, a high school teacher supposed to go through every book and make sure that if there’s ever a picture of married couples in those books they tear out any page where it isn’t a straight couple?” Buttigieg added. “Is that what we’re asking teachers to do?”
President Biden has also previously referred to the bill as “hateful” in a tweet.
In a statement to Fox News, DeSantis Press Secretary Christina Pushaw called Psaki’s podcast appearance “troubling.” She said, “It’s troubling that a Biden Administration official would break down in tears because of a law that protects parental rights,” adding, “Why is it so important to her for teachers to instruct children in grades k-3 about transgenderism and sexuality?”
