DNC raises record-breaking $42 million for midterm first quarter, $16.5 million in March alone

Just ahead of the midterm elections in November, the Democratic National Committee’s fundraising sector brought in $16.5 million in the month of March, which sets a first-quarter record.

A DNC spokesperson noted that the group had raised a total of $42 million for the first quarter, and that is “the most ever for Q1 of a midterm year.” 

The group gave credence to President Joe Biden, his wife and first lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and her husband and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff for the success of their fundraising initiatives.

According to the DNC, texts, emails, and mailings that were signed by White House principles garnered half of the new donors as well as 40 percent of one-time donors through quarter one. For march, the average donation to the DNC was $26, and 98 percent of donations through the entirety of quarter one were $200 or less. 

“The DNC is all-in and has used our record fundraising success to make historic investments earlier in this midterm cycle than ever before,” the spokesperson added.

The announcement of the record-breaking quarter comes as Democratic committees have outraised Republican ones in quarter one.

Beyond the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) raised $52.4 million through the first quarter, which beat the National Republican Congressional Committee by over $11.5 million. 

Democrats seem to be facing an uphill battle in the midterm elections as President Joe Biden’s approval ratings have been on the decline consistently through his time in office.

Virginia’s gubernatorial elections, which always take place on off-off years, are often considered to be important indicators for how midterms will go. Republicans swept the executive offices, installing Glenn Youngkin as Governor, Winsome Sears as Lieutenant Governor, and Jason Miyares as Attorney General.
