Gov. Jared Polis offers Disney, Twitter new headquarters in Colorado

Gov. Jared Polis has reached out to both Twitter and Disney and offered them a new home in Colorado.

“Florida’s authoritarian socialist attacks on the private sector are driving businesses away,” the Democratic governor tweeted on Tuesday. “In CO, we don’t meddle in affairs of companies like @Disney or @Twitter.”

Polis then added: “Hey @Disney, we’re ready for Mountain Disneyland and @twitter we’re ready for Twitter HQ2, whoever your owners are.”

Polis, who said he was willing to “grant full asylum to Mickey and Minnie,” was reacting to a tweet showing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis vowing to hold Twitter’s board of directors “accountable for breaching their fiduciary duty.”

This Tweet happens as Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Tuesday that the Republican-led legislature would hold a special session this week to take up a bill that would revoke Disney’s special self-governing status in the state.

In 1967, Florida created the Reedy Creek Improvement District, a semi-private, independent governing entity controlled by Disney. It gave the company the power to approve construction projects for its theme parks as well as build and manage the necessary infrastructure to support its operations.

A similar issue occurred when Major League Baseball moved out of Atlanta, Georgia due to voter restriction laws. Denver Mayor Michael Hancock said at the time that moving the game and all related festivities to Denver’s Coors Field was a direct result of Colorado’s inclusive and accessible voting system.

“This is a cautionary tale for any state, any city who wants to restrict access to one’s rights to vote,” Hancock said. “For every action, there’s going to be a reaction.”

DeSantis also said he was looking for ways to hold Twitter’s board of directors “accountable” in the wake of news of the board’s “poison pill” plan to stop the acquisition of the social media platform by Elon Musk.

Mr Polis ought to open his eyes and ears and pay attention to the “WHY” Florida is doing what it is doing. Indoctrinating children into deviant behaviors is wrong and companies should not be rewarded. And Twitters’ board works hard to silence those they disagree with.
