Audio of Lindsey Graham reveals he said President Biden was ‘best person’ to have in office after Jan. 6th
A newly released audio recording of Senator Lindsey Graham reveals the South Carolina senator said Joe Biden was the ‘best person to have as leader of the United States after the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.
In the recording, which was first unveiled by New York Times reporters Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin on Tuesday night’s episode of CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” Graham can be heard admitting that the riot was a political low point, and that then-President-elect Biden was the perfect person to have at the helm.
“We’ll actually come out of this thing stronger. Moments like this reset. People will calm down. People will say, ‘I don’t want to be associated with that,’” Graham says in the clip. “This is a group within a group. What this does, there will be a rallying effect for a while, the country says, ‘We’re better than this.’”
When asked whether Joe Biden was the right person to unite the country, Graham replied, “Totally, he’ll be maybe the best person to have, right. I mean, how mad can you get at Joe Biden?”
Graham later Tweeted in agreement with Biden that the attack on the Capitol amounted to an insurrection. “I could not agree more with President-elect Biden’s statement to the nation,” Graham said. “Time to retake the Capitol, end the violence, & stop the madness. Time to move forward in governing our nation. Our differences are real but the love of our nation overwhelms our differences.”
Graham’s office has signaled a major change in Graham’s opinion of Biden since the day of the Capitol attack, telling The Hill this week that Biden is “not the [Biden] we saw when he served in the Senate. He’s pursued a far left agenda as President.”
