New York City Mayor Eric Adams considering 2024 presidential run, source says
An unnamed source told the New York Post last week that New York City Mayor Eric Adams is eyeing a 2024 presidential run, but Adams’ office insists the rumor is untrue and that the mayor is sharply focused on the city.
“Eric has told me repeatedly that he thinks that he has a platform to run for national office, for president in 2024,” said the anonymous source, who is reportedly close to Mayor Adams. “He thinks New York is a national platform. He thinks the national party has gotten too far to the left and he thinks he has a platform to win.”
Adams’ office refutes the claims by the Post. Spokesman and public relations consultant for the mayor told Business Insider, “There’s a difference between gossip and news—and the truth is that the mayor is completely focused on bringing New York City back by lowering crime, growing our economy and reversing inequality,” and says the claims of Adams presidential run are “one hundred percent false.”
Another source, reportedly a Brooklyn Democrat, told the Post Adams is “considering a White House run in 2024 if Biden doesn’t seek reelection.” The current president has said publicly he is more likely to seek reelection if former president Donald Trump enters the race again.
Adams has vehemently denied his ambitions for a 2024 POTUS bid. “That’s a silly, silly story. I never had a conversation about that and I love being mayor, and you can run the country from New York City,” he told The Post. “I’m the mayor. That’s all I’m focused on.”
Adams would not be the first New York City mayor to seek the presidency, as former mayors Bloomberg and deBlasio both recently ran unsuccessful campaigns for the highest office in the land.
