Biden: ‘I don’t want to hear any more of these lies about reckless spending, we’re changing people’s lives!’

President Joe Biden on Tuesday denounced Republican criticisms of his spending policies during a speech delivered to the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations’ quadrennial convention in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

“This year, by the end of the fiscal year, we will have cut the federal deficit by another $1.6 trillion dollars in one year, one year! So, when they come to you and talk about big spenders, let them know: almost two trillion dollars in deficit reduction.”

Appearing irate, Biden declared: “I don’t want to hear any more of these lies about reckless spending, we’re changing people’s lives. And because of the fact this year, we’re delivering the biggest drop in deficit in the history of the United States of America.”

According to its website, the AFL-CIO is a federation of 57 unions representing over 12 million workers. Biden told the crowd he intends to be “the most pro-union president in history.”

He also touted his appointment of former union leader Marty Walsh as secretary of labor. Biden drew laughs when he joked that Walsh, who speaks with a thick Boston accent, would eventually “learn how to speak English.”

Additionally, Biden praised Stacey Abrams, calling for voters to “help her in Georgia.” He added: “There’s three things I learned about early on. One, she’s loyal. Two, she’s capable. Three, she’s smarter than you so please help her out.”

Biden took a jab at his predecessor, Donald Trump, calling him “the second president in history to leave office with fewer jobs in America.” The other, he said, was Herbert Hoover.

He continued, “You remember what our economy was like? What it looked like before we took office? 3000 Americans die every day from covid. 20 million Americans have lost their jobs under the last guy. So many lost their jobs my predecessor became the and just remember, remember those long lines of cars edging miles back waiting for a box of food to be put back in the truck. wasn’t just portable.”

Later in the speech, Biden touted his many spending plans, including the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, which he said helped 41 million Americans “put food on their table,” and the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
