Rep. AOC accuses conservative justices of lying under oath, calls for their impeachment
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has called for the impeachment of two Supreme Court justices on Sunday stating that they mislead senators over their views on whether Roe v Wade should be overturned.
During an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press, Ocasio-Cortez called for “consequences” for Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch after senators Susan Collins and Joe Manchin said last week that both the justices had indicated during their private meetings and testimony under oath to the Senate Judiciary Committee that they considered Roe to be settled case law.
Ocasio-Cortez accused the Supreme Court of “dramatically overreach[ing] its authority” and said they created a “crisis of legitimacy,” which she called on President Biden to deal with.
“If we allow Supreme Court nominees to lie under oath and secure lifetime appointments to the highest court of the land and then issue — without basis, if you read these opinions — rulings that deeply undermine the human civil rights of the majority of Americans, we must see that through,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
She added, “There must be consequences for such a deeply destabilizing action and the hostile takeover of our democratic institutions.”
Conservative justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, who each voted voted to overturn Roe v Wade, came under criticism for avoiding the question of overturning the precedent during their respective confirmation hearings or saying they would not support overturning the case.
Ocasio-Cortez said on Sunday that lying under oath is an impeachable offense and there should be consequences to deter any other politicians from doing it.
“What makes it particularly dangerous is that it sends a blaring signal to all future nominees that they can now lie to duly elected members of the United States Senate in order to secure a Supreme Court confirmation,” she said.
Elizabeth Warren also blasted Friday’s ruling and called for the Supreme Court to be expanded.
“This court has lost legitimacy. They have burned whatever legitimacy they still may have had after their gun decision, after their voting decision, after their union decision,” she said, according to an ABC transcript. “They just took the last of it and set a torch to it with the Roe v. Wade opinion.”
“I believe we need to get some confidence back in our court and that means we need more justices on the United States Supreme Court,” Warren said.

Standard reaction of those on the “Left” – claim their opponents are doing what they do all the time. The Court simply reversed an unconstitutional prior ruling. People should really take the time to read the US Constitution. Behaviors and the consequences of behaviors are basically left to the States in most issues.
