Sen. Mitt Romney warns Americans of ‘a return of Trump,’ says it would lead to ‘irreparable harm’
Utah Senator Mitt Romney (R) penned an op-ed titled “America Is in Denial” in The Atlantic this week that painted a bleak picture of what he believes may come for the United States if the wrong presidential nominees are put forth in 2024, and worse, if they win.
In the Monday essay, Romney pointed to what he characterizes as the United States’ fall from a once-dominant world power to a teetering democracy that could tilt in the wrong direction if former president Trump is elected for another term in 2024.
“President Joe Biden is a genuinely good man, but he has yet been unable to break through our national malady of denial, deceit, and distrust. A return of Donald Trump would feed the sickness, probably rendering it incurable,” Romney wrote.
The Senator detailed the United States’ diminishment on the world stage in dire terms. “During the past half century, we Americans have lived in a very forgiving time, and seeing the world through rose-colored glasses had limited consequences. The climate was stable, our economy dwarfed the competition, democracy was on the rise, and our military strength made the U.S. the sole global hyperpower. Today, every one of those things has changed.”
Romney has been a consistent critic of former president Trump, and in this week’s op-ed he called for candidates in 2024 that bring new leadership.
“I hope for a president who can rise above the din to unite us behind the truth,” he said. “Several contenders with experience and smarts stand in the wings; we intently watch to see if they also possess the requisite character and ability to bring the nation together in confronting our common reality.”
Biden and Trump have both refrained thus far from officially announcing their candidacy in 2024, though Vice President Kamala Harris recently hinted that the President plans to run again, and she hopes to run with him.

Mitt Romney is part of the problem. When President Trump was in office the country was doing good despite the RINOs, Democrats, and other “Leftist” working to destroy the country and what President Trump was doing to make the US free again.
