Group offers $250 reward for sightings of conservative Supreme Court justices
The liberal organizing group ShutDownDC said on Friday that it will be offering $50 to anyone who gives them the location of the six conservative Supreme Court justices and another $200 if the justice is still in the location after 30 minutes.
“DC Service Industry Workers… If you see Kavanaugh, Alito, Thomas, Gorsuch, Coney Barrett or Roberts DM us with the details! We’ll Venmo you $50 for a confirmed sighting and $200 if they’re still there 30 mins after your message,” the group said on Twitter.
Their announcement comes after Justice Brett Kavanaugh was forced to exit through the back door of a D.C. restaurant after ShutDownDC was notified that Kavanaugh was dining out there. The group spread news of his location and protestors soon gathered outside the building. Not long after the incident, the group said it received more donations “than any single day yet.”
The group is specifically targeting the conservative justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion nationwide. Those who voted to overturn the law includes Justices Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. Justice John Roberts joined the three liberal justices, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan in voting to uphold Roe.
In a statement released in June, Planned Parenthood, NARAL Pro-Choice America and the Liberate Abortion Campaign distanced themselves from any group that threatens violence in response to the high court’s ruling.
“We reject the tactics and threats of groups that use destruction and violence as a means to an end. They do not speak for us, our supporters, our communities, or our movement,” the three groups said.
