Rep. Kevin McCarthy threatens to investigate AG Merrick Garland over FBI raid

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) stated on Monday that if Republicans take back control of the House and the Senate after November’s midterm elections, they will launch an investigation into the Department of Justice and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“I’ve seen enough. The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization,” McCarthy said on Twitter. “When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned.” He added: “Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar.”

McCarthy’s comments a matter of hours after former President Donald Trump confirmed in a lengthy statement that FBI agents had searched his Mar-a-Lago residence, also stating that agents “broke” into a safe.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) acknowledged the raid during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show,” however he largely avoided going into specifics as he noted that the investigation is still ongoing.

“Well, I know nothing about it other than what I’ve read like everybody else, so I think it’s wise for me to withhold comments until we learn more,” Schumer said.

Rachel Maddow did press Schumer on whether he thought what McCarthy said was “effectively threatening” Garland, Schumer said, “None of us know the facts, and any comments are premature.”

DeSantis did not hold back and was extremely critical of the raid. “The raid of MAL is another escalation in the weaponization of federal agencies against the Regime’s political opponents, while people like Hunter Biden get treated with kid gloves,” wrote DeSantis. “Now the Regime is getting another 87k IRS agents to wield against its adversaries? Banana Republic.”

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel dubbed the raid an “abuse of power.”

“Absolute power corrupts absolutely,” she said in a statement. “Countless times we have examples of Democrats flouting the law and abusing power with no recourse. Democrats continually weaponize the bureaucracy against Republicans. This raid is outrageous.”

And hopefully the Democrats who have actually committed crimes will be prosecuted as well. And yes, I include Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama, Kamala Harris, The Bidens.
