Brian Stelter will be leaving CNN after his ‘Reliable Sources’ show is canceled
CNN anchor Brian Stelter is set to leave the network after his show ‘Reliable Sources” was cut from the schedule. Stelter became the host of CNN’s show Reliable Sources in 2013 and was also their chief media correspondent.
“CNN will end its Reliable Sources program on Sunday, August 21st,” a network spokesperson said in a statement. “As a result, Brian Stelter will leave the company. We appreciate his contributions to the network and wish him well as he embarks on new endeavors.”
Stelter announced his departure on Twitter and also stated his intentions to try and find his colleagues, who have also been laid off, new roles. “I loved anchoring @ReliableSources. It was a rare privilege to lead a weekly show focused on the press at a time when it has never been more consequential,” Stelter said.
He continued, “And here’s the thing… We’re going to do it one more time. One more show. This Sunday morning. The small but mighty producing team is working on bookings and ideas right now. I am in awe of their talent and I am going to do everything I can to help them find new roles. See you Sunday at 11am ET.”
A network source told the New York Post that Stelter was “taken off guard” by news of his departure. The source went onto say that Stelter was informed of rumors about him losing his position, but he reportedly dismissed them and said he was “not getting fired” and was part of the “fabric of CNN.”
Stelter’s departure coincides with the arrival of the new CNN CEO Chris Licht who has reportedly put an emphasis on “news” over opinion.
“Stelter came to CNN from the New York Times as the nation’s top media reporter. He departs CNN an impeccable broadcaster. We are proud of what Brian and his team accomplished over the years, and we’re confident their impact and influence will long outlive the show,” CNN executive vice president Amy Entelis said of Stelter during an interview with Fox News.
