Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene introduces bill ‘to criminalize the child abuse that many call gender-affirming care’
On Friday Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GE) introduced her “Protect Children’s Innocent Act.” The objective of the bill is to take action against anyone who “knowingly performs any gender-affirming care on a minor.”
A statement from Greene’s office said that crimes of this nature will be listed as Class C felonies and will be punishable with 10 to 25 years in prison along with a fine up-to $250,000.
Taylor Greene took to Twitter on August 19th to tout her new bill: “Tomorrow, I will introduce the Protect Children’s Innocence Act to criminalize the child abuse that many call ‘gender-affirming care.’ My legislation would immediately make it a felony to subject children to puberty blockers or horrific ‘sex change’ genital surgeries.”
Taylor Greene also thanked the co-sponsors of the bill, who included Mary Miller (R-IL), Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Bob Good (R-VI) along with several others.
Taylor Greene also appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show on Fox News to speak about her bill. She referred to any gender-affirming care carried out on minors as “disgusting and appalling” and “child abuse.”
“I find this absolutely appalling, Tucker,” Greene said. ”When it comes to gender-affirming care, which is really child abuse, this is actually an assault and it’s child abuse. And this practice should never happen, it’s so disgusting and appalling… gender-affirming care is… genital mutilation.”
“This needs to be illegal and I’m introducing a bill called Protect Children’s Innocence Act,” she added. “It would create a law that would cause it to be a class C felony for any person involved in so-called gender-affirming care… anything involving any youth under the age of 18,” Greene said.
Carlson responded by saying he expects every Republican to get behind the bill and that doctors who provide the care should “go to prison.”
