County official arrested for alleged murder of Las Vegas investigative reporter
Police on Wednesday arrested 45-year-old Robert Telles, who is a county public administrator, on suspicion of the homicide of a Las Vegas investigative reporter who had written articles, allegedly exposing corruption in Telles’ office, as per the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Jeff German, who was a well-known investigative journalist in the Las Vegas area, was found dead outside his home. Initial media reports suggested he had been stabbed to death. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the homicide had been a result of an altercation he had with another man earlier on in the day.
An official, who said they could not discuss specifics of the case, told the LA times that Telles was taken into custody by a special weapons team. The official also confirmed that Telles has been denied bail.
“The suspect in the homicide that occurred on 2 September 2022, has been taken into custody,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a short statement. The LVMPD did not name the suspect in their statement.
“We take this case very seriously and our investigators have been working non-stop to identify and apprehend the suspect,” said LVMPD Homicide and Sex Crimes Bureau Capt. Dori Koren. “We enacted our Major Case Protocol immediately following our initial response and are using all LVMPD resources to maximize the progress of this investigation.”
Jeff German had reported on Telles for several months. His articles about Telles included accusations of bullying, favoritism and other alleged wrongdoing at a local government office that deals with properties of deceased people who haven’t drawn up a will.
“The arrest of Robert Telles is at once an enormous relief and an outrage for the Review-Journal newsroom,” the newspaper’s executive editor, Glenn Cook, was quoted as saying. “We are relieved Telles is in custody and outraged that a colleague appears to have been killed for reporting on an elected official.”
