Chelsea Clinton says she and Ivanka Trump were ‘definitely friends’ until Ivanka went to the ‘dark side’
Chelsea Clinton, who is the daughter of former Secretary of State and Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton, has lashed out at her former friend Ivanka Trump. Chelsea said she has not had any contact with Ivanka since she stepped over to the “dark side” in November 2016.
“I would say we were friends,” Chelsea said during her interview on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” on Thursday, the New York Post confirmed. “She’s not the person I called when I was curious about something for my kids or if I was debating a life decision, but we were definitely friends. And then she went to the dark side.”
Chelsea said that the last contact between her and Ivanka happened in November 2016 but did she does not remember being invited to dinner by the Trump family as suggested recently by Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner.
“He even told Ivanka to invite Hillary and Bill for dinner in the coming weeks,” Kushner said of Trump’s outreach to the Clinton family in his book “Breaking History.”
Jared Kusher wrote that Ivanka had extended an olive branch to Chelsea after the 2016 election by asking her over for dinner so that they could maintain a “cordial relationship.”
‘”It is true that I spoke to Ivanka in November 2016, it’s the last time I have spoken to her,” Chelsea stated. “But I do not recall being invited to dinner.”
In 2015, Chelsea spoke to People and said “Friendship is always more important than politics. I learned that growing up, watching my parents be friends with people across the political spectrum in Arkansas.”
Later on in 2015 she said to Vogue that “I still consider her [Ivanka] a very close friend, and she considers me as well. We have a great relationship.”
“She’s always aware of everyone around her and ensuring that everyone is enjoying the moment,” Chelsea added. “It’s an awareness that in some ways reminds me of my dad, and his ability to increase the joy of the room. There’s nothing skin-deep about Ivanka.”
Later, in August of 2016, Ivanka spoke to Harper’s Bazaar and said “I still consider her a very close friend, and she considers me as well. We have a great relationship.”
“I’m not running for public office, and neither is she, so of course we’re still friends,” she went on to say.
However, Chelsea’s stance changed when she spoke to Andy Cohen in 2020: “I have no interest in being friends with someone who is not only complicit but actively taking part in this administration’s every day collision of cruelty and incompetence.”
She added: “We were in touch at the beginning of the campaign, but it’s just really hard when there’s someone who’s actively embracing their candidate, whether it’s their father or not, who is trafficking in racism and sexism and anti-Semitism and Islamophobia and homophobia and transphobia and conspiracy theories and lies and is so fundamentally corrupt.”

I suspect the proper statement is Ivanka Trump left the “Dark Side”.
Considering Chelsea’s parents and who she is married to and the associated family no one who is smart would want to associate with her.
